MIND PREPARATION FOR JOB INTERVIEW
Any interview, whether for a government job or for a private sector job usually has a few objectives. It tries to test a candidate’s presence of mind and his ability to handle stress and difficult situations. The aim is to try to know about the candidate but also to intimidate the candidate and see if he is capable of working under pressure. Banks no longer provide public service alone. All banks are increasingly looking towards profit-making and are foraying into the Investment and Corporate sectors. At the same time, Banking operations have become almost completely computerized, and that has given rise to some job opportunities related to the management and maintenance of computer systems. This means that the variety of Bank Jobs have increased to a large extent. Bank jobs are widely considered to be very lucrative. They offer security, and many other benefits and perquisites. Hence there is a great deal of interest in such jobs. Securing a job in private sector banks is not very difficult, if one has the requisite qualifications, but public sector i.e. government bank jobs are relatively harder to get.

The typical questions asked would be along certain set lines, though interviewing panels are known to have diverged from these to test a candidate’s mental abilities. However, the first question usually asks for an introduction. This is a crucial part as it is to gauge the self-confidence, image and communication skills and it is very essential to answer this question effectively. An answer should be as striking and self assured as possible, without going overboard. The next questions are usually related to previous scores and performances, in general as well as in the preceding tests and group discussions. Any panel is usually aware of all the figures and results, but this too is a way of testing a candidate’s response. The most common sorts of banking jobs are the clerical jobs. These job holders take care of the day to day work involved in retail banking. Tellers are in charge of receiving and disbursing cash and cheques. Other people, of officer grade may be in charge of overseeing the maintenance of the accounts. Yet others would be in charge of arranging loans and mortgages. As banks are becoming more commercialized, the concept of the importance of customers is becoming vital, and banks, nowadays a whole range of jobs are available to take care of customer relations, such as answering their queries, addressing their grievances, and when necessary directing them to the right person.

Having said that, it is most important for any candidate to have a general feel for the interview in order to be well prepared and self assured. A candidate must show the presence of mind and be calm at all times.  In a generalized form it may be said that there are four kinds of bank jobs available in India. These are clerks, probationary officers, officers and office assistants. Below the clerks are the class 4 employees. They are the people who are employed in performing non-clerical tasks, such as delivering messages, and security and so on.
